What is SEO?

This is an essential topic in our self-directed SEO course; the first topic we study is “what is SEO?”

Here’s an excerpt from the course:

What is SEO?

SEO is optimizing your website to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). When people search for a particular term or phrase on Google, Bing, or any other search engine, the search engine displays a list of websites relevant to the search query. These websites are ranked based on relevance and authority, with the most relevant and authoritative websites appearing at the top of the search results.

Why is SEO important?

SEO is vital for several reasons. First and foremost, it helps your website rank higher in search results, which means that more people will be able to discover your website. This is especially important for small businesses, as it can help you attract more customers and drive more sales.

In addition, SEO can also help you improve the user experience of your website. When your website is optimized for search engines, it’s easier for users to navigate and find the information they want. This can lead to higher engagement and retention rates and a lower bounce rate (the percentage of visitors who leave your website after only viewing one page).
